About Octavia

Octavia Neal is a Black woman, mother, wife, daughter, and dedicated therapist. And she'll tell you none of those roles rank higher than another.

Her path into mental health began in 2011 working with youth diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and youth in foster care, before moving into crisis intervention for some of San Jose's highest-risk young people. From there, her career expanded into healthcare systems providing individualized trauma treatment for adults, and she continues to work with youth, families, and postpartum mothers navigating clinically diagnosable mood disorders.

Breaking the cycle of intergenerational trauma is personal for Octavia, not just professional. She values honesty, transparency, respect, and integrates those things as a normal part of the therapeutic relationship. She encourages questions, elicits feedback often, and isn't afraid to sit with you in the hard stuff.

What drew me to this work: Breaking my own cycle of intergenerational trauma (learning to prioritize my needs, giving myself permission to rest, and build a better relationship with my body and mind) brought me to this work and keeps me in it.

What to expect in the room: I don't just hold space — I actively engage. I ask questions, elicit feedback, and am not afraid to be honest when honesty is what's needed. Don't be afraid to ask for what you need.

Outside the therapy room: Constantly moving, trying to keep up with my young kids. Usually outside.
